Welcome to Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club

The purpose of this site is to keep members informed about what is going on around the surf club, training, patrols, competition, winter swimming, ocean swimming and social events.

It will also serve as a way of keeping the general public and beach goer up to date about the club, provide information on joining the club and what the club does for the community.

Coalcliff is the second most northern club in the Illawarra branch and is known as the 'Social Club'. We have a very strong Nippers and an active seniors who patrol our 'Place in the Sun' over the summer season.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Committee Meetings - First Thursday of the month @ 7:30 PM - All welcome to attend and provide input to how you club is run.

Rod Stevens Memorial Paddle (Inaugral) - 31st January 2010

Event was held in mixed weather but went off well for the first time. 29 entries set off south from Coalcliff Beach in choppy conditions to the end of the 'Sea Cliff Bridge' and back to the beach with the distance testing all competiors.

First male was Richard from Scarborough Boardriders with Leo Stevens from Coalcliff second just behind with Toni Stevens from Coalcliff being the first female home.

A great start that we hope to build on in the years to come.

Thanks to Gerald Davies for his support on the Jet Ski and Stanwell Park for their supplying an additional IRB and crew for water safety.

Rod a Stanwell Park resident and member of Coalcliff SLSC for many years loved the beach and was a regular surfer at both Coalcliff and Stanwell Park. Rod was never happier than when he was paddling a board, whether a surf board or rescue board it didn’t matter.

Rod was a Coalcliff Patrol Captain who for as many years as he was a member achieved 100% attendance for his patrols.

Coalcliff SLSC has approached Rods family with a request that Coalcliff SLSC commemorate his life by holding an annual memorial paddle. Rods family have agreed to this request.

AGM: Held Sunday 26.07.09 at Coalcliff SLSC - Great attendance with most positions filled with enthusiastic members, so we are looking forward to a great year.

NOTE2

ATTN: Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Members

It has come to the Clubs attention that individuals are completing the offered training courses of Surf Rescue Certificate and Bronze Medallions with no intention of joining the club in following years as an active Patrol Member/Lifesaver once qualified/certified.

A new policy has been created to ensure that participants in training courses offered by Coalcliff Surf Life Saving are/will intend to continue to be an active member of the Club to ensure the continual safety of our beach.

This policy stipulates that members who intend to complete a training course will be required to pay an upfront fee of $110 before the first training session. This money will be kept by the Treasurer and returned to the member upon successful completion of the course exams and in conjunction with their attendance on the following season patrols (approximately 10 - 13 patrols). If the candidate is unable to complete the required patrols the following season, the fee will be given to the club to assist with the increasing expenditure on new equipment and tools which are required to ensure the safety of those that attend Coalcliff Beach.

It is our aim that with this policy we will develop the future Life Savers of our community and retain the candidates who complete the Surf Rescue Certificate and Bronze Medallions. We hope that implementing this policy we will increase our patrols from 3 individual teams to 4 teams and grow the lifesaving community which we have created.

A non-refundable fee of $40 will be charged to all participants which cover the expense of workbooks and training manuals.

We apologise for the initial inconvenience, though we ask that you place your trust in our decision in creating this policy and you will see the benefits with increasing numbers of active life savers for our surf life saving club.

Exclusion: All Active Members who can demonstrate the completion of 50 hours in the previous season are excluded from this policy and are only required to pay $40 for the workbooks.

Regards,

Club Captain
Training Officer and Assessors
